Planning my trip for this Sept. I will be arriving in Melk and would like to bike to Krems , leave the bike in Krems and take
the boat back to Melk where I have hotel. My question is : Is this too much for one day. I would like to stop and see the sites and eat along the way. Is there a train or a bus that would take us back from Krems to Melk instead? I have a few days to explore the valley, any other ideas . Also looking for a good recommendation for hotel in Melk. What locations along the Danube should I put on my list to stop at ? for lunch or tours? Any input appreciated I'm new at traveling out of the country. (USA)

Yes, there is a bus, the WL1, which runs between Melk and Krems. Much faster than the boat. Why stay in Melk? Why not a town in the actual Wachau, like Spitz, Weissenkirchen or Duernstein. We stay in Duernstein.
