Vienna to Wachau Valley and biking

Hi - looking for input on the following questions. It appears fairly simple to take a train from Vienna to the Wachau Valley and back (same day). Please confirm this.
I would like to rent two bikes somewhere to ride in the Wachau vallley visiting wineries / small restaurants, etc. for the day and return them in order to take the train back to Vienna. So spending 8 hours or so is fine.

Is this doable? What city do you recommend I take the train to get to the Wachau valley and which company can rent me bikes? Not looking for long ride but are able to do 25-30 miles in total if need be (casual biking to explore). This would be for this mid- September time frame on a Sunday or Monday (either better or worse?)

All comments and suggestions are welcomed. Thank you in advance.

The towns of Krems and Melk are on either end of the Wachau valley. Both have direct train connections to Vienna.

With Nextbike you can rent a bike either in Krems or Melk and return it at any other Nexbike location.

I would recommend to ride from Melk to Krems because it is downstream. Note that the more scenic route is on the left (north) side of the Danube. As Melk is on the other side you must cross the river there.
