Family of 6 in Europe...where to stay?

Hi folks. I have traveled solo in Europe for business quite a bit, and as we've traveled as a family of 4 once previously (Germany and Italy). Even a family of 4 presented a challenge from a lodging perspective. We don't have money to burn (150-250 EUR per night) for 2 adults and 4 kids, age 7-17. We plan to visit the following locations in spring 2016: Dresden, Prague, Munich/Fussen, Venice, and Rome. We are open to rental cars and trains for regional transport or between countries.

Are there specific hotels/pensions/inns or brands of same in those areas that are friendly about accommodating a group of 6, preferably in the same room or adjoining rooms? We're somewhat flexible about which parts of town so long as they are safe. We are fine to ride public transportation where needed, and do not require deluxe or luxurious accommodations - just safe, clean, affordable, and relatively convenient.

All you large families or groups...thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

Some people reporting in here, with a group of 6, find that rental apartments are the most economical, compared to 2 hotel rooms. But sometimes apartments have a minimum stay requirement.

Given of the general business culture of charging per person rather than per room as common in the US, you probably will find two rooms about the same price as one room for six IF you can find a room that big. The 150/250 is low for those cities. A double room in Rome can easily hit the 200 E mark. As suggested, an apartment might be more reasonable and comfortable but doesn't lend itself to one and two night stays. Good luck.

I would for sure use vrbo.com and get an apartment. We have always had good luck with them both all over the US and in Munich, Rome, and Venice. I will only stay at one that have multiple good reviews. And I want them to answer quickly when I inquire. I originally found all of these on vrbo but they have their own websites too... They were all WONDERFUL and perfect! Book early whatever you choose and then you get the best chance of a good one that is not too expensive. Oh man, now I am sad and missing our trip!

Can't remember how much we paid but we stayed in the Santa Clara in Munich (but he owns a lot in the building on Prinzregentstrasse, great location, walked to many things and subway stop right there)

In Rome we loved this place! Laura was awesome and we walked everywhere! To Colosseum and to Vatican and everything in between!

In Venice this place was amazing!!!! Truly wonderful.

Good luck!!! Apartments are the way to go - we would just go to the market and gran yogurt and croissants for breakfasts and other snacks for picnics! And laundry! So you can pack lighter! I can't even imagine staying in a hotel with my family (2 boys). Each place was very easy to get around and gave good info and someone met you to collect the money and give you a little overview at each.

Oh and Mike's Bikes tour to Neuschwanstein was a HIGHLIGHT!! (Well ride a bus there, then bike!) And Row Venice where we got to row in a batello - so fun!!!

Have fun!!!!!

I'm not sure if it is in your price range, but our party of 5 (3 adults and 2 teenagers) spend 2 nites in Venice at the Residence Corte Grimani in 2012 and loved it. We had a mini-apartment with 2 baths, one BR with a king bed and double sofa bed, and living room with a double sofa bed and a kitchen and it was plenty of room for us and would easily sleep 6. Wonderful staff, very modern amenities, and great location. We would stay there again in a heartbeat. May be worth checking out for your group.
