I noticed this on YouTube yesterday and found it to be an interesting look at current events and how they relate to history......
Ken, thank you for posting this. These are things I have been realizing, and it's nice to see that Rick is calling them out.
I would really like to weigh in on my own opinion, but I understand why Rick wants to keep his website purely about travel, and doesn't want to get involved with non-travel, controversial issues, but kudos to Rick for taking a stand.
This is one of the very best and best-delivered speeches on the subject I have ever heard.
Ken, thanks for sharing.
I've always admired Rick, but as a citizen of Minnesota his words in this video speak to me more now than ever.
Thanks Ken. I've also watched RS's "The Story of Fascism in Europe" from seven years ago in which he mentioned no names. This time, he's not holding back. I deeply appreciate that.
That showed up on my feed yesterday, too. I didn't think it was possible to think more highly of Rick Steves as an intelligent, kind, rational, and ethical man. I was wrong. One of the most thoughtful and reasoned speeches I've heard.
Thanks for posting this Ken.
I saw Rick’s travel presentation at Phoenix Travel Show Saturday. Excerpts from this talk were included in his presentation, although a lighter version, plus a call for us to support PBS.
Late to the party here but does anyone know if his April 26th talk in Seattle with Shelley was recorded/filmed? If not, can anyone who attended tell me if it was very similar to the youtube version Ken linked above? As the two events were only 2 months or so apart, I'm hoping that's the case so I can get the gist from this video.
Yes,
The Cathedral recorded [streamed live] the 26 April version originally timed 6pm talk (that was full to capacity, so an extra (repeat) was added at 4pm which was not recorded).
At the moment it is still up on the current page (3rd down) here, but in a day or two will go into the archive (very top right of the page)-

I decided it wasn't important enough to be out of bed at 2am, but saw it on Monday morning
Thank you Ken and others for comments.
I missed this post when it came out.
I finally watched the YouTube today. Outstanding.
This makes me appreciate Rick Steves more than ever.
Happy travels .
Thank you, isn31c!!!! You rock.
