Mary & I went on a Viking Cruise which began in Istanbul. We have used Rick's tourbooks for a couple of decades and we were well informed about Istanbul and Ephesus. But I never thought of finding a restaurant since we had little time to explore on our own. But it turned out we did have some time to find a place for lunch when we did have some time away from the prescribed Viking tour. And somehow we just happened to get to a recommended restaurant near the Hagia Sophia which we loved: The Matbah Restaurant. It specializes in Ottoman cuisine and they do a great job.
Do they have good vegetarian food options? I have been looking for several restaurants but I am not sure
At all restaurants in Istanbul u can find vegaterian food. Dont worry about it.
Nearly a year ago we visited Istanbul for four nights before moving on to other places in Turkey. We stayed within walking distance of the Hagia Sophia and finding fun restaurants was easy. The hard part was finding restaurants that didn't all serve the same Turkish food. We even found one recognized by Michelin. Different restaurants same food.
