Wings Hotel - can't confirm my reservation. Any suggestions?

I'm having trouble trying to reach the Wings Hotel to confirm my reservation. I've emailed 4-5 times and gotten no response so I tried calling their number this morning and got a message saying something like the number is restricted even though I called 011, then the country code, which is 90, and then their phone number.

Not sure if any of you have stayed at the Wings Hotel and run into the same problem or have run into similar problems trying to confirm hotel reservations in Turkey. If you have any suggestions as to what to do I'd love to hear them.

Yes the Wings hotel in Istanbul and yes I have emailed them multiple times

You might try calling again next week ( 90 (212) 292-8080 is the number on The Wing Hotel's website which still appears to be active). The Wing Hotel also is still listed by Booking.com
If you are not able to communicate with them next week, I would consider reserving at another property. Turkey is now experiencing deep financial and political problems and maybe that is a factor.

If you are using a cell phone you might try using the + sign instead of the 011 to get an international line out. My cell phone does this automatically for me but you can do it yourself (usually by holding the 0 key down until + appears). https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/phones-tech/call-uk-europe

Also, did you book with the hotel directly or via a third party like Booking? If the latter, try messaging them through their app or web interface, many properties are more responsive that way.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I booked directly with the hotel and when I have tried calling I used my landline as I have an international calling plan tied to that. CL, don’t you pay much higher fees when you call internationally via your cell phone?

pjmun I rarely make international calls on my cell phone so I don't have much info on cost, you could check with your specific cell phone plan for information. I can't imagine it will break the bank to make one call to confirm a reservation, but if cost is an issue, you could always try calling them using Whatsapp or contact them through their Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/thewingshotel/

I haven't stayed yet, but I have a reservation for October.

I have emailed numerous times with questions and I always get an answer within a few hours, so that is very odd indeed.

All my emails have gone to [email protected]. Is that the address you have been using?

Hi Deb,

Thank you for that email address. I will try that. I was emailing [email protected], which was the address tied to the original confirmation I got a while back. I just sent an email off using the email you provided so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I am a bit concerned that I can't reach them by phone though. Have you tried contacting them by phone?

CL thanks for your suggestion to try calling using my cell phone. I am trying the new email address that Deb provided and if I don't hear back will try calling them on my cell.

No I haven't called them. Like you I don't have international calls on my phone, although I could add it if necessary.

I have had such quick responses that it hasn't been necessary so far.

I would appreciate it if you would let us know if the email gets a reply at that address.

I emailed them about 24 hours ago and still haven't heard back but am hoping I will hear back today. I will keep you posted. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Again, I ask are you taking the time difference into account.

If you are uncomfortable that they haven’t yet replied have you considered booking another hotel?

Perhaps your email is getting caught by their spam filter. I found that my email addresses with older or less common email post fixes (e.g., [email protected]) weren't recognized and didn't clear some European spam filters. So the "non-responsive" hotels were never receiving my emails.

I switched to a Gmail address for my international correspondences.

Gosh that is a bit of a worry if there is no response.

I've come up with some inane questions to ask them, so I have emailed and will report back if and when I get a response.

As I have said, they have always been excellent, and I've emailed a few times with questions and changing our reservation.

So I just sent an email ten minutes ago with a couple of questions re attractions tickets and public transport.

It is 7:20pm here in Australia, and apparently that is 12:20pm in Istanbul.

I got a reply in literally five minutes, which is what has happened previously.

I sent the email to [email protected].

If you are not getting responses, I would say there is something wrong, possibly your email being blocked as others have mentioned.

pjmun just make a quick phone call, no sense spinning your wheels any longer. According to Google the check out time is noon Istanbul time, so maybe call around 1 p.m. their time.

As CWsocial explained, I meant what if your email was getting filtered as spam by the hotels ISP. Based on what I have been reading on this and other travel forums, US email addresses with .net extensions or from non-conventional internet providers often are not recognized in Europe and don’t make it into the recipient’s mailbox.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try emailing them from a gmail address and will also try calling them from my cell. My god, I hope this works. Have never spent so much time or effort trying to confirm a hotel reservation. I will let you all know if I finally get through!

Hi CL,

In the end your suggestion worked!!!! I tried calling from my cell phone and hit the + sign instead of the 011 that I used from my landline and I actually got a person on the phone who confirmed my reservation. Thank you all so much for your help. Deb, I tried emailing to the address you use and never got a response so that was strange but in the end it all worked out.

Appreciate all of you helping me out with this.

I'm so pleased that you got your confirmation, but it is very odd that they always answer me immediately.

I am sure that it must be something to do with your email address that someone else mentioned earlier.

calling from my cell phone ............ I actually got a person on the phone who confirmed my reservation.

Did you get a written/email confirmation following the phone call ?
