We’re going on the Best of Turkey tour. We’ve been to Kusadasi before so we’ll be opting out of the tour to Ephesus. Is Kusadasi safe for us to wonder around on our own? We did a private tour before and went to Mary’s House and other sights so we just want to do our own thing this time. TIA

You could get a guide to take you to ancient Pergamon, north of Izmir so roughly the same area. We enjoyed seeing it.

We stayed in Kusadasi last month and walked everywhere on our own (we are in our 70's and not part of a tour). We felt very safe and welcomed wherever we went. There are several lovely beaches to explore. Taxis are also very affordable if you want to explore an area that is a bit to far to walk to from your hotel. There is a large, interesting shopping area with an old town feel near the cruise terminal and local parks that tourists seldom see. We went through the shopping area early one morning while the shop keepers were setting up, which was a fun experience.
