I will have a one day layover in Istanbul next week. I was thinking of going to the Hagia Sophia. When I was there last September, nearly half of the interior was covered by scaffolding. Has anybody been inside recently, and is there any scaffolding still set up in the interior?
There was still scaffolding up in March.
I was there nearly 3 years ago, and there was a lot of scaffolding. Must be a long-term project.
We were there on 6/17/16 and there is some scaffolding up but 3/4 of the interior is open. The project is an evolutionary one, they finish one area and then move to the next, it is nearing completion. I would definitely make the visit and if you have another hour, the cistern is awesome!
