Upcoming Topkapi Palace + Harem visit - August 2026

First off - we are not guided tour types. I'm sure they are worthwhile, but they just don't work well for us...

That said, I cannot find an on-line reseller (with excellent reviews) that offers a self-guided Palace + Harem ticket. If you know of one, please let me know.

At this point, I've resigned myself to arriving early in the morning and standing in line to buy tickets on-site.

I understand the reseller approach can avoid the ticket line queue, but do they really have preferential treatment at the security check? Many of the reseller sites seem to suggest "they can escort you right thru security" versus those who buy their tickets on-site. Are there separate security lines for guided versus non-guided?

Also, is there a point in the guided tours where the guide leaves the group and let's everyone explore on their own? We could probably endure a short time with the guided portion if needed to get into the Harem and beyond.

I'm open to any suggestions or tips.

I've been to the Topkapi Palace around this time of year, and the queue for tickets was only a couple of minutes- I certainly wouldn't consider signing up for a tour just to prebook tickets. Security is before the ticket office (at the main gate) - I don't recall there being a separate queue for guided tours. But again, it wasn't long.

We took a short guided tour of the palace but it concentrated on the Harem. It was very interesting and worth the time and cost to us.
We also did not see any different security line when we entered. The ticket line wasn’t that long either.
That said, we were able to stay after the tour ended. You could spend the entire day there no problem.

I am starting to look into a trip to Istanbul in 2027. I have not done a complete search, but one of the Istanbul Cards may make sense for you. I don't know if they have skip the line privilege's or include a Palace + Harem option. My perspective on this is that some sites, such as the Blue Mosque, take very little time to see and have an entry a price the same as a museum where you might spend a half day or more.

First of all there is only one ticket now for the Palace and it covers main section and harem section.
If you want to do it on your own just be there around 08:40am and probably with 10 minutes wait u can be inside. And its nice to tour it with Rick steves book.
Sometimes it even takes longer to go in with skip the line ticket companies.

The Blue Mosque, like most mosques in Istanbul, is free to enter. You may be thinking of the Aya Soyfa maybe?
