Ukraine Airlines out of Istanbul

I'll be in Istanbul this August and intend to fly to Amsterdam towards the end of my trip since my return flight to the US leaves from Dusseldorf. The only airline that has cheap flights from Istanbul to Amsterdam is Ukraine Air, and all the flights have a stop in Kiev. I have some safety concerns, an I'm wondering if anyone has ever taken Ukraine Air or flown into/out of Kiev recently. What was your experience? Should I spend an extra $100-$200 per ticket to fly on a potentially "safer" airline? I also looked into breaking the trip into 2 flights on discount airlines, but it would be about another $100 per ticket. My budget is pretty tight, so I'm interested in what anyone has to say!

Sky scanner shows that there are nonstops from Istanbul right to Dusseldorf in August for $260. The flight is not from the main Istanbul airport (Ataturk) but from the other one: Sahiba Gokcen. Airline is Pegasus/Air Berlin code share. Turkish Air flies it as well.

If you're wanting to spend time in Amsterdam first, I see flights at about $210. That's not much more than the Ukraine Air prices I see...and the flight is nonstop.
