Just heard this on the news (CNN). I think it is not fake news because I also found this BBC report.
Good news for all of you planning a visit this coming year.

Chani,
Thanks for posting. I'm booked for the Oct 15 RS Turkey tour. The RS office is supposed to communicate with us after the first of the year their decision about whether the tours will go. The concern is the additional cost associated with obtaining a Visa in person from a Turkish consulate. If you live in a large city as I do, that's no problem. Third party services will go through the process for a fee. I called the RS office and was told upper management had discussed this and would make a decision soon.
Here's the State Department news release: https://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2017/12/276772.htm
And a blog post from a reliable source: https://thepointsguy.com/2017/12/us-turkey-visas-resume/
Went to the website--- https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/apply/
and it does let you proceed with the visa application process as a USA citizen
I received an email from RS yesterday that the Turkey tour is officially "on"! Visas can be obtained through an online application process as before. 90 days before your arrival date. So excited! This will be a fascinating trip.
Yes, you are now able to get a visa to travel to Turkey if you are a US citizen. I went to the online site (www.evisa.gov.tr) and had my visa within just a few minutes. Cost was $20.70. I am traveling to Turkey in March and was starting to think they would not get the issue resolved. Am relieved and happy to be going!
