Turkish Riviera - Side vs. Kemer (Göynük): pros and cons

We are a middle-aged, active couple, planning our first trip to the Turkish Riviera at the end of September (8 days). We are flying to Antalya, and are in two minds whether Side or Kemer (Göynük) would be a better "base" for our vacation.

Our main criteria are a) easy access (preferably by public transport) to a variety of attractions (historical sites or natural landmarks); b) a nice local beach; c) local activities available in the evenings, d) a peaceful yet lively location.

We are concerned that Side might be a bit too much of a "tourist factory," while Kemer could be the opposite extreme, perhaps too tranquil. Although we definitely want to enjoy the sea, we also love discovering cultural and natural treasures. We are open to renting a car for a day or two, but considering the reputation of Turkish driving style, we probably feel safer relying on local drivers.

Based on the above, which option would you recommend? What are the pros/cons of Side and/or Kemer? We are especially interested in the opinion of those who have been to both places. To be on the safe side, we have made a hotel reservation in both locations, but of course, we will only keep one of the two.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi , I’ve a place in Antalya and if I was you I’d stay in the old town of Antalya and organise trips from there to see the many historical sights and you will have lively nights

A) Both side and Kemer are very touristy and mostly full of Russian tourists, tours can be arranged from both but most tours have to pass through Antalya to get to the sights
, B) Kemer has the nicest beaches but there’s also konyalti beach and most are only a few minutes by bus or tram

C) as stated above both Kemer and side are touristy so the nightlife will reflect that the old town has a bit more variety and better views

D) the town can be lively but a minute or two outside is grand , buses go to Göynük canyon , thermessos etc from the old town
