I know there are plenty of Turkish Baths in Istanbul to try during the first few days on the tour.
For those having taken the tour, are Turkish Baths available in the other cities the tour covers?
I'm thinking the authenticity might be better outside Istanbul. And if so, suggestions?
Thank you.
As I recall, there was an opportunity in Antalya but it’s been a while since we did that tour.
Yup, like Mary said - Antalya. During the 'day off there.
It was great, and I'd say it was probably pretty authentic. But for that, it was not tourism romantic.
I did the tour September 2019
Yes, we were told the Hamam in Antalya was more authentic, less expensive and run by people the guide knew. I availed myself of this amazing cultural experience and now have an unforgettable memory. When I was dressed again after my experience and was leaving, a group of locals came in for a social massage gathering. It was very cool. These ladies had just come from their jobs and were chattering away.
My RS tour was mid-October 2018.
I loved the 600 year old hamam in the Kaleici neighborhood of Antalya, right around the corner from Hadrian’s Gate. It was incredibly inexpensive for the works including hot oil massage. You an find pictures of it on google maps. It’s called Sefa Hamam Antalya Kaleici. It was my first hamam experience. I was a bit shy, feeling awkward and nervous but they took wonderful care of me. I went back two days later and have never skipped a hamam experience again. Why don’t we have something like this in the states? Amazing experience and I had no idea I had so much skin that needed exfoliation!
In Antalya, the guide set up a Haman visit for some and a boat ride/swim for others. Our tour was in October, 2019 and the Mediterranean was still warm.
