Turkey Travel in July: Booking or Waiting?

Hello everyone,

I've been following the recent developments in Turkey closely. I was planning to book flights and accommodations for mid-July, but with the protests, I'm now in a wait-and-see mode. It's hard to predict when and how this ends.

Is anyone else in the same boat? Are you booking anyway, choosing a different vacation spot, or just waiting it out?

We have a cancelable hotel reservation for the end of October in Istanbul. We’re holding off on our plane tickets for now.

I am planning to go with family and friends in late June/early July for 15-18 days. We will have our teenage children with us. We saw our friends yesterday and they want to go. I was 90% go a few weeks ago and now I am 60%. We really want to see Istanbul and the Turkey coast. We travel to Europe almost every year and I never felt uncomfortable, until now. I could be overreacting. We likely will get flexible airline tickets or travel insurance and keep an eye on things. We will also keep an eye on our state department website for updates.

It appears that the protests are restricted to certain areas and as long as you/we are smart, tourists travelling should be okay.

Or, maybe we will just go to Paris. :)

I am a solo senior citizen traveler and will arrive in Istanbul on my first visit in early May for 5 nights, then on to Athens for 2 nights before returning home. I have no intention to change my plans. Ever since i found Istanbul is a place i shouldn't pass up, i decided to see for myself. I walk every morning and am in good health. 6 tours with Rick Steves taught me everything I know in travel. I'm not sure how much longer I will have this opportunity and will explore as long as I can.
Should you decide to go, I hope you have a wonderful time!
