We arrive on 8/4 into IST from the US at 16:00. Hoping to catch a 18:35 TK flight to Cappadocia. Is that realistic?
If so, itinerary would be 2 nights in Cappadocia. Then return for 4 nights to Istanbul before departing on the morning on 8/10. Plan on doing a eMed online test 48 hrs before departing so wifi is a must.
Istanbul would be the typical sights, river cruise, and any other side trips. Potential day trip to Ephesus or elsewhere.
If catching flight to Cappadocia is not possible would love some suggestions. Cappadocia is a must for the wife. THANKS.

That connection time is too tight, even with just carry on luggage. You need to clear passport control and customs in Istanbul before going to the domestic flight. Also, since your domestic flight is a separate booking, they probably don’t know you are trying to connect from an overseas flight. Even if they do know, I doubt they would hold the flight for you.
Also, luggage allowances on Turkish Airlines are very generous for flights going to and from the USA. Domestic flights booked on a separate booking (any airline) will be subject to more limited luggage allowances. Make sure your carry ons meet the requirements for domestic flights. Check the website of the airline you are taking from Istanbul to Cappadocia (flying into Kayseri airport?).

I think cabin luggage restrictions are likely to be the same - 8 kg plus a "personal item." In my experience Turkish almost always weighs carry on at check-in. You should be able to get your boarding passes for the 2nd flight when you check in for the int'l flight. It is likely that you will have to go through security before your internal flight.
Seems like the alternative is to split your time in Istanbul, some days before Cappadocia, the rest after. Ephesus is not possible as a day trip from Istanbul or Cappadocia.

I would love to know how you made out with this IST connection. We have the exact same thought with flights for our trip in October. Were you able to make the 8:35 flight to Capp? Thank you.

We did not end up flying straight from IST to Capp (NAV) that night. Changed plans prior which was a good thing. Plane was delayed leaving Newark. Add in passport control was slow. We would have only had about 45 mins as long as everything else went smoothly.

Thank you for our response, kklus. It's helpful to hear from someone who had the exact same connection as us, flight times and all. We're probably going to err on the side of caution and spend that first night in IST and get the 6:30AM flight to Capp the next day. Hope you had a great trip.
