My husband and I are going on the RS Best of Turkey tour this October (2-14). We are planning our days after the tour from the morning of the 14th until we return to Seattle from IST the afternoon of the 19th.
I have read that we will get guidance on getting the ferry to Samos. Hopefully the ferry back will be straight forward. It looks like the ferry to Samos is in the early morning and coming back to Kusadasi is early evening. We plan one overnight on Samos. Then how to we get to Izmir in the evening? Would it be easier to stay in Kusadasi after the ferry? It looks like most car rentals are from the Izmir airport. Perhaps it would be best to go to Izmir airport (how? taxi? shuttle?) in the morning after staying in Kusadasi; and then rent a car at Izmir airport (after prearranging) and then drive to Izmir? W would tour and overnight in Izmir. We are hoping to drive ourselves back to Istanbul via touring ancient Troy and staying a night in Canakkale. Then we would spend the next day at Gallipoli sites enroute to our Istanbul Airport Hotel. We would return the car at the Istanbul Airport.
Does that sound doable? Overly complicated? If you have other suggestions, I would love to know. I want to avoid any other air travel because my husband hates airports.

The plan itself is reasonable. After your ferry from Samos to Kusadasi Cruise Port, you can have a taxi or prearranged private transfer at the exit gate of the port. There a taxi stop where taxis 24/7 at the exit gate.
You can rent a vehicle from Izmir Airport and drop-off to Istanbul Airport after your Çanakkale visit.
I suggest you to stay one night in Kusadasi and rent your car for the next day. Because ferries are returning back around 18.00 and it will be hard to reach Canakkale with overnight drive on the same day
