My husband and I are taking the Rick Steves Tour of Turkey which ends in Ephesus with the closest airport being Izmir. I would like to take a day trip from Izmir to Pergamon. I have seen some postings online from Tours by Locals to Pergamon, but has anyone used a local guide they would recommend? I am also interested in seeing a few sites around Izmir, so has anyone used a guide for that city or were you comfortable visiting on your own?
