Understand they had earthquake and flood damage this year. Any idea when museum will open again. Planning a side trip...
According to this article, Gobekli Tepe reopened pretty quickly after the earthquake:
I don't know how much of the tourism infrastructure is functioning, though. I would recommend careful research before you make any plans.
Very helpful. Am continuing research but have high motivation to visit. This area was birthplace of founder of several major faith groups; Abraham. Thank you.
I can understand why you want to visit. Gobekli Tepe was high on my list of possible places to visit in Turkey. A few days before the earthquake, I eliminated it from my list. As much as I wanted to visit, it was just a little more than I was willing to take on as a solo female traveler. It was just too long of a drive from my starting base of Antalya and too close to the Syrian border. The tourism infrastructure, even then, was somewhat minimal.
I would love to hear a trip report when you get back.
Hi Bob, have you been yet? I am planning to go in September and interested in any feedback or tips you have.
Gobeklitepe is open and accepting visiting since February. It's totally worth to visit!!
Am visiting in October. I do understand the archeology museum is also now open which is also positive. Flights from Istanbul are very affordable and am able to rent car at airport.
