Safety Issues

Has anyone heard about warnings to stay away fro m Turkey now? We are thinking about flying to Bodrum, renting a gullet and sailing in the Dodecanese islands and Turkish coast but are having second thoughts about safety for U.S. citizens.

Check with the State Department for their travel warnings. It’s easy to do online. Then check warnings for other countries and you will find similar warnings. I loved my time in Turkey a few years ago. I don’t know what I’d do now, as I have even more issues with their dear leader!

As usual the State Department warnings focus on the Syrian and Iraqi borders, and the southwest regions of the country. I can't imagine a safety issue on a gullet cruising some small islands.

We're on the Rick Steve's Best of Turkey tour and it's been business as usual in Turkey. Turkish people love to ask foreigners where are they from and to thank you for visiting Turkey. They'll even try to stretch it that they have brother/uncle/friend in Chicago (or whichever State you are from).

Thanks. Reassuring. Some of these posts sounded ominous!

Just returned Oct 29th2019. I had no issues even during the last 3 weeks. The people could not have been nicer and i felt safe at all times. Naturally anywhere bad things can happen. Go to Turkey, it is wonderful. Very welcoming to Americans which is amazing considering what is being said from Washington.
Be careful even if you had no plans of buying a rug, you will leave with one.

You’re right about the rugs. We went once before and came home with three! Thanks. We plan to go this summer.
