I’m considering signing up for this tour for next April. According to the itinerary, on the last day there will be an option of bus transfer to Izmir. Should I plan staying an additional day or two in Izmir before returning home? If so, any hotel recommendations would be appreciated.
You can of course stay in Izmir, but know the bus transfer is just to Izmir airport not Izmir town. You'd need to transport yourself to your chosen Izmir hotel. Because of my flight schedule, I chose to have a leisurely breakfast at the Kusadasi tour hotel, go for a walk, and then booked a private transfer to the Izmir international airport terminal for my flight to Amsterdam (I stayed there one night and flew home the next morning). Some in my group took advantage of the tour transport to the airport and flew home that last day via Istanbul or other cities. They had to have flights that left after 10:30 a.m. though, earlier departures arranged a private transfer. Others in my group stayed in Kusadasi a few days or took the ferry to Samos, Greece. Plenty of options.
Great tour by the way, plenty of posts in the forum about people's experiences.
We spent a couple of nights in Izmir after the tour and were glad we did. We took the bus transfer to the airport and then found our way into the city. I don’t have any specific hotel recommendations. We had points and stayed at the Hilton. It was fine and well located but not the usual RS type of hotel.
When I took the RS 13-day Turkey tour in 2024, I scheduled the bus transfer to Izmir with the guide on the last day of the tour, and the bus came early the next morning to take me to the Izmir airport. After my Izmir-Istanbul flight, I then transferred to my U.S. flight.
P.S.: The Turkey tour is quite excellent.
