I'm trying to decide between going to Bodrum for the first time or returning to Kusadasi like we did last year?
Relaxation mixed in with some sightseeing (like ruins, etc) are the priorities.
Any suggestions?
I've enjoyed Kusadasi, but haven't been to Bodrum. My understanding is that it's a flashier destination, with maybe a Miami Beach-like vibe. I also understand that a significant about of its visitors come from a country that is currently rather difficult to travel from, so maybe it'll be a quieter season there?
Scudder, if you mean the UK, it is no longer difficult to travel to/from here - so I would expect the British to be out in force in Bodrum and other popular holiday destinations making up for lost time.
Are those your only two options? I would choose Bodrum over a repeat visit to Kusadasi. But if you are open to other possibilities, we enjoyed Dalyan more than either. Sea turtle hospital, Lycean tombs on cliffsides, river cruises ending at mud baths — lots to do there.
Margaret— I was thinking of a different nation of sun-seekers, one under international sanctions, with a plunged currency value, and whose airlines have stopped flying out of the country for fear of the planes being repossessed.
A relatively subjective question for me as I have spent time in Bodrum (would go back in a heartbeat!) but haven’t had the pleasure of a stay in Kusadsi. My suggestion for you would be to try something new, it’s lovely there. We loved Bodrum and didn’t find it anything like Miami (really?), but then truth be told, I’m not Florida’s biggest fan. We loved the interesting Bodrum Castle Museum but found the Museum of Underwater Archaeology mesmerizing. Great food and lovely locals abound and made us feel exceptionally welcome.
Ah, right of course! That makes sense Scudder. Bodrum is also quite popular with the British so that’s why my mind went there!
