I'll be traveling to Istanbul mid-September. Can you provide some modestly priced hotels there?
Neorion Hotel has excellent service and is on the tram line. It is a short walk to the historic buildings.
I stayed in the Raymond Blue Hotel and the Empress Theodora, both very close to everything including the tram, which I took to the airport and around. I used www.booking.com for both. I don't think you'll have any trouble finding reasonably prices hotels in Istanbul these days.
We stayed at the Empress Zoe in Sultanhamet. At the time it was owned by an American woman, surprisingly, but that may have changed. Check it out.
I stayed at Hotel Amira, behind the Blue Mosque. Wonderful staff, comfortable room, good breakfast.
Bill, I love the Regie Ottoman Hotel in Sirkeci, and have stayed there multiple times. It is located halfway between Sultanamet (old town) and the Galata Bridge, walkable to just about every major site. Very near the Spice Bazaar, and very close to a tram stop. The building and rooms are wonderful and very comfortable, the staff is very friendly and helpful, the breakfast buffet is huge, varied and delicious. Neither the least nor most expensive, but great value, in my opinion. Do check it out.
