Help! Will we miss a scenic ride between Kuşadası (or Izmir) and Istanbul if we fly to Istanbul rather than take a bus? If we take a bus, which city do you recommend leaving from? Thank you!
I’ve driven and flown. I don’t think the scenery is worth the time. Fly and see more of Istanbul.
Thank you for the speedy reply.
And, if anyone disagrees, please be as specific as you can be.
Flights in Turkey are cost effective. Make sure to register with Turkish Airlines to facilitate bookings
If you're looking for scenery, it's nice but not outstanding. But for me, I will always prefer road travel over a flight when I'm traveling in Europe or elsewhere. I just don't like the time and effort involved in flying.
Aside from that, buses in Turkey are very nice - more like luxury buses, with reclining seats, movies, music and attendants who walk down the aisle and spritz you with scented water. I also enjoy them because it gives me the opportunity to see and talk to locals. When I was traveling from Izmir to Istanbul, a woman sitting in front of me smiled and handed over ther 6 month old baby for me to hold while she went inside at a rest stop (I had been making faces at the baby and playing peek a boo). Another time I chatted with a local woman sitting next to me on the way to Fethiye. We spoke using sign language and the few phrases of Turkish I knew. She shared her trail mix with me.
This just doesn't happen in many other parts of Europe. The encounters were priceless to me and such a unique part of the travel experience.
Thank you!
