Please be seated..... or else

It’s a topic of controversy when it comes to air travel: When your plane reaches its gate, when is the right time to stand up and begin the deplaning process?
In Turkey, passengers who get out of their seat before the plane has stopped taxiing or crowd the aisle before it’s their row’s turn to deplane will now face fines, according to a circular approved by the Turkish Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

The flight attendants will be handing out 'un-parking' tickets?

This is sometimes a serious and dangerous problem on some Turkish Air flights. I flew from Istanbul to Tashkent and the very instant the plane touched down people leaped out of their seats and started pulling down their (very large) pieces of luggage. I never saw anything like it. One of the flight attendants told me that a baby was actually killed by a falling heavy suitcase in such a situation on a previous Turkish Air flight.

I flew into Istanbul recently and two people near the front of the plane got out of their seats immediately upon landing to retrieve luggage from the back of the plane. One did it twice. This prompted several people to unfasten their seatbelts. The flight crew played the “please stay in your seats…” recording twice in response to these activities. It appears this fine is necessary for the safety of everyone onboard.

I am a senior female who often travels solo. When searching for a direct flight from ORD to IST this fall, Turkish offered only very inexpensive economy seats or business seats at a price I cannot justify. I settled on United to Rome in a reasonably-priced Premium Plus seat connecting via Turkish to IST. The connecting time is over 3 hours so I will not need to rush if we are not delayed. Thank you for the warning. My experiences lately have been pleasant with passengers waiting until after the seatbelt sign has been turned off to stand.
