Some friends have invited my wife and I to visit them in Pakistan. We would be staying with them in their home. They would be with us where ever we went. I am wondering if anyone has had recent experience traveling in Pakistan? Is it safe?

Is it safe is subjective. The US State Department places it at a Level 3 and Level 4 advisory.
If you decide to go you may have trouble finding medical insurance that will cover you on the trip. You may have trouble finding evacuation insurance that will cover you. Anything that happens to you while on the trip may be excluded from coverage under your US policy, or may be betreated as a pre-existing condition after you return home. If you die, your life insurance may not pay. Read your policies carefully before going.
Other than those issues, it sounds fascinating.

Pakistan is a large country. Perhaps suggesting where in Pakistan would be helpful. Some areas the government is not in control and the inhabitants are controlled by the war lords, some places the government is in control.
Are you in Turkey now?
