I'm guessing I already know the answer... but thought I'd still ask for advice. We have a 4 1/2 hour layover in Istanbul (IST). Is that enough time to leave the airport and see anything? We are US Citizens.

No, that's too risky. You'd have to plan on an hour each way travel time into the city center and time to go back through airport security. You'd also need to purchase a Turkish visa for $20 at www.evisa.gov.tr.

Not to worry. IST will provide lots of entertainment on its own. You'll have fun gawking in the chic and expensive duty-free shops. And keep your eyes peeled for the very modern Segway wheelchairs.
