Thank you,
Just completed two days in Istanbul with an excellent guide one of our party found via Viator, which I realize is a consolidator. We were so impressed with “Sam,” we asked if he were available for a second day. I have been fortunate to have had two Rick Steves recommended guides in the past, and this young man is on par with both (or above).

I highly recommend Metin Koca. He has hundreds of excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. His email is: [email protected] Metin is an amazing tour guide in Istanbul.
I will add a vote for Metin. He is willing to hop in the Hagia Sophia line early (before opening) for you so that you can be one of the first in the mosque. My buddy and I decided to join him in line early and chat. We happened to be the first in the mosque on the day we visited... it was pretty amazing to see it before the crowds overran it.
My wholehearted recommendation for an Istanbul tour guide goes to Suzan Kahraman (+90 533 210 17 40; [email protected] ). Suzan organized our entire time in Istanbul (from arrival at the airport to our departure)—and proved to be a tour guide second to none. She listened to our every need, and shortly after gave us a number of options for a proposed itinerary for a city tour (that included all the 'must sees', plus a boat trip on the Bosphorus), and for places to eat. Communication with her in planning the trip was pleasant, efficient and effective.
Suzan's tour was engaging and fascinating, and her English was excellent—almost mother-tongue level! She spoke with the utmost clarity, at just the right pace. Her tour guide headset system worked really well, with the added bonus that nobody got lost in the throng. Throughout the tour Suzan's commentary was deeply knowledgeable, pleasant, laid-back and (when not inappropriate) light-hearted. The environment was frenetic, but she made the whole experience calm, relaxed, enjoyable, fascinating, informative and fun, and she expertly answered the tens of questions that we threw her way.
At lunchtime she took us to a charming hidden restaurant in the Grand Bazaar that was frequented by locals, and we were the only tourists sight. Her restaurant recommendations were excellent, and satisfied the passionate foodies in our group, as well as those looking for simpler high-quality, good-value Turkish fare.
There are no doubt a number of really good, knowledgeable and professional tour guides in Istanbul, but based on my experience you can't go wrong with Suzan: A true professional.
She sounds wonderful. I will be in Istanbul for 2 weeks on my own. I love walking tours. Do you remember her as well- or that for a private tour? ( it becomes very expensive for 1 person.)
@tenniswow: There's no harm in sending Suzan an enquiry via email: In our experience she was always quick to respond.
