We'll be doing the RS Greece and Turkey tours in April-May. We already have round-trip tickets Seattle-Athens. It seems straightforward flying from Athens to Istanbul, but not so easy to get from Kusadasi, where the Turkey tour ends, back to Athens to fly home. As near as I can tell, you have to take a ferry from Kusadasi to Samos and then a bus from the port to the airport, and fly direct to Athens from there, or take a bus or ? to Izmir airport where you can catch a flight with a 7:45 layover in BEG, wherever that is, for a total travel time of 11+ hours. How do others handle this?
You can fly from Izmir to Athens directly on Aegean airlines most days of the week, perhaps you're looking at a day they don't offer a direct flight (Tuesday and Saturday). Do you have cushion between your last day of the tour and your departing Athens flight? Hopefully at least a day so you can figure out some options. Depending on your Athens flight you may have to backtrack through Istanbul to make the connection you need.
PS BEG is Belgrade https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgrade_Nikola_Tesla_Airport
Check out an earlier posting in Turkey forum:"Travel Greece after Turkey tour" by titch, 12/30/24. If you don't have a couple of days after the tour ends before your flight home, you best should skip the last couple of tour days. Izmir airport is ADB. Istanbul is IST.
The RS tour provides transportation to Izmir airport by 10am departure day morning.
