Hot Air Balloon Sites in Turkey

Hi everyone,

I’ve read on Travel 2 Destinationz that Turkey has the best hot air balloon experiences. I’m planning a trip and would love to hear more about this. Can anyone confirm if this is true?

I’m particularly interested in:

The best regions in Turkey for hot air ballooning
The best time of year to go
Recommended tour operators
Any personal experiences or tips you can share
I’m really excited about this trip and want to make sure I get the most out of my hot air balloon experience. Thanks in advance for your help!

The best region is Cappadocia. Period.

I have done balloon rides in Cappadocia, Pamukkale and Luxor, Egypt. Cappadocia was the best. Luxor was very good (much better than I expected), and Pamukkale was a disappointment.

There are a lot of excellent operators in Cappadocia. I had an outstanding experience with Royal Balloons, and I am sure that others will chime in with other good recommendations.

I don't have a lot of advice. Most operators will pick you up at your hotel at an unspeakably early hour. Cappadocia is in the desert, and it can be chilly in the mornings, and so you will most likely want to pack a light jacket. If you are a photography fan, pack a good travel zoom -- you will use everything from wide to telephoto.

And one more thing: Make your reservation for your first morning in Cappadocia. Balloons don't fly unless weather conditions are near perfect, and cancellations happen frequently. You want to make sure to have time to reschedule if your original flight gets cancelled.

Enjoy!

We just finished 12 days in Turkey that included a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia. I used Royal Balloon http://www.royalballoon.com/ I booked online and was upgraded from a 20 person balloon to a 16 person balloon - worth it! They do pick you up super early, 4:30am for us, but they provide breakfast and get you up in the air asap. We were the first balloon up that morning and what a treat to see other balloons rising as well as the stunning landscape and sunrise. Our pilot has 15 years of experience and gave us the smoothest ride and landing. It’s an extremely well run shop and I highly recommend this company.

We went end of August and it wasn’t cold in the morning, 65F. A light jacket, pants and shoes were sufficient.

We recently completed an incredible 10-day trip through Turkey, with the highlight being a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia. We booked through Travel-Cappadocia.com, and the entire experience was flawless from start to finish. https://travel-cappadocia.com/en/hot-air-balloon-tours-tc25 We were pleasantly surprised when we were upgraded from a 20-person balloon to a more intimate 12-person flight, which made it even more special. The early pick-up (around 4:15 AM) was well worth it, especially since they provided a tasty breakfast before heading to the launch site. Watching the sun rise over the magical landscape while dozens of balloons floated around us was simply breathtaking. Our pilot, with over 12 years of experience, made us feel completely safe with a gentle take-off and landing. I can’t recommend Travel Cappadocia enough for anyone looking to have an unforgettable balloon ride in this amazing region!
