Good map app

I plan to rent a car and drive from Izmir to Ephesus. I understand that Google Maps is not supported in Turkey. Is that still true? Also, can anyone recommend a good GPS app for Android that would work internationally i.e. reliable and would guide me in English? Worst case scenario, I suppose I can always rent a GPS from Avis along with the car....

Thanks,
Kat

This doesn't really answer your question, but you can get by with a simple computer printout of a road map. If you're flying in, the airport is south of the city right off of the 550. Signage is good between Izmir and Selcuk (Ephesus). It is also good for all of the main sites in the area around Selcuk. You are unlikely to get lost.

To get from Izmir to Selcuk you have two options - the 550 the entire way or getting on the newer E87 (which is a toll road) for most of the trip. If you plan to get on the toll road make sure your rental has an HGS sticker/transponder. I'd also recommend asking if they charge extra (above the toll amount) for this.

Have fun!

That is good to know that the drive is relatively straightforward. I will be sure to print out a map.

Thanks Rob!

Kat - I'm a Houstonian who lives in Istanbul. Google Maps works just fine. I use it almost every day. I don't know why you think it is not supported. But it works just fine. They even have street view for Istanbul and a few other cities.

The drive to Ephesus takes betwween 5-7 hours non-stop depending on where you are coming from in Istanbul. And most likely you'll take a Ferry no matter what route you take.
