We are considering signing up for a 2026 tour of Turkey, but would like to add a stop at Göbekli Tepe either before or after. Curious how others have navigated added stops before/after, particularly if you've made a stop at this particular site.
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Barbara
Full Disclosure -- I haven't been to Gobekli Tepe, but I have thought seriously about going. Gobekli Tepe is about 750 miles from Izmir, and so you're pretty much going to have to fly. I think you will have several options to airports in either Gaziantep or Sanliurfa. Honestly, I would arrange for a tour or a guide from one of those cities. Gobekli Tepe is in a remote area, and I would anticipate substantial language and/or cultural barriers for solo travel.
I haven't been there either, but suggest contacting SRM Travel. They provide the RS guides for Turkey and are also a private travel agency that offers tours (group and private). I agree with prior poster that the remote location lends itself to having a guide/interpreter and some help with logistics. https://www.srmtravel.com/contact.html
