Is it worth visiting the new excavations given we have limited time? Anybody been there?
No .. If you have been at Ephesus before , it is not worth to go there only to see those new excavations. They have excavated behind of Nike relief and it is about 20x40 meters square area and they have discovered taverns and houses dating back to 6c Ad. There is no way to walk around that ruins and you can see behind the rob. You can see walls that is about 2 meters in height, thats it.
Thank you so much. Do you know if we should also skip the Terrace Houses?
NOOO !! DO NOT SKIP TERRACE HOUSES . IF YOU HAVE BEEN EPHESUS BEFORE BUT HAVENT BEEN AT TERRACE HOUSES , GO THERE JUST FOR IT .
Those are rich Roman houses dating back to 3rd C Ad with beautiful mosaics and frescoes (wall paintings).
This is exactly the info I needed! I am going to find a private guide to get there. I couldn’t be more appreciative. Thank you.
I’d agree with the advice about the Terrace Houses — they’re extraordinary, and unlike anything else in Ephesus. What struck me most were the mosaics and painted walls that give a very direct sense of how the wealthy actually lived.
Domitian Square is interesting from a historical perspective, but if time is limited, the Terrace Houses are a far richer experience. With a good guide you’ll not only see the details but also understand how they fit into the broader story of the city.
We will go. Thank you very much for helping me.
