Datca Peninsula

Anyone have any info on the Datca Peninsula regarding accommodation and best places to visit and how to get there from Istanbul? Travelling in May/June.
Thanks!

You could take a long 12 hour bus ride to Datca from Istanbul. Or fly from Istanbul to Bodrum, then taxi or bus to Datca.

We visited Datca 10 years ago in September as part of a trip along the Turkish coast. Quiet little town —we stayed at the Fuda Hotel, just a short walk from the bus stop in town, right on the beach, with its own good restaurant. I assume you’re going there to visit the ruins at Knidos? They were amazing — huge site — few other visitors. You could spend hours wandering. We took a boat to Knidos & back.

If you’re interested in archeological sites, you might continue south down the coast. Stop for a few days in lovely Dalyan. Here you can see Lycian tombs carved in the cliffs along the river, and visit a sea turtle nesting beach & hospital. We stayed at the great Kilim Hotel, right on the river.

Then continue down to Patara, a small village near what used to be a major seaport which is now being excavated. And again, we had the ruins almost to ourselves. We stayed at the wonderful Akay Pension, where we had some of the best food in all of Turkey. Patara has Turkey’s longest sand beach — 11 miles long — and a chunk of the Lycean Way footpath.

There’s so much to see in Turkey! Have a great trip.
