Does anyone have experience or recommendation on renting a cell phone in Turkey?
I did not rent one. I brought my TMobile phone with me. It worked everywhere and was 20 cents per minute, free texting and free data.
Valerie...that is amazing...so you had no data roaming charges? I need to look into this. My AT&T phone worked perfectly, but not at those rates...
I had that same experience with T Mobile in England last September. I have an iPhone 5s on the Simple Choice plan. I'm taking same phone on same plan to Istanbul in March and fully expected same performance- that is, no extra charges. I was told $.20 a minute for all phone calls but didn't need to make any.
@TerryKathryn - responded to your PM.
But for the benefit of the board in general, yes, my rates were amazing. Free data, free texting and truly 20 cents per minute. Coverage was excellent. The only thing I could not do was make WiFi calling work. WiFi calling would have let me talk for free, instead of 20 cents per minute. Most hotels did not have a consistent enough WiFi signal to hold those calls and some wouldn't let me tap into WiFi calling for some reason. I decided I didn't care that much since calling was 20 cents.
Those are some pretty spot on rates that Tmobile is offering. I have AT&T as well, and the roaming rates were ridiculous.
I brought an old unlocked phone and purchased a sim from roam 4 less, and just forwarded my iphone to that number. Pretty good rates and was able to set usage caps.
Hi - We researched this a lot. We were in Turkey in Dec. 2015-we used the free Viber app and it worked fantastic especially for texting...And we could do it free. We had a Verizon plan as backup. Have a great trip -it is a magnificent country and lovely people!
