We are traveling to Bodrum in September and would like to spend a couple of days on Crete if there is a reasonable way to get there. Has anyone done this trip? If so, did it entail ferries or a flight?
Thanks for any suggestions.
If you just have a couple of days, Crete is too far & too complicated. Especially if you have to return to Turkey for your flight home. You’d spend most of your time in transit.
From Bodrum, you can easily ferry to-from the Greek islands of Kos or Rhodes if you’re looking for a little taste of Greece.
I agree with what Charlene says. There is no quick route from Bodrum to Crete.
Kos and Rhodes are better choices from Bodrum.
I was just thinking . . . if you're still researching your Turkey trip, there are so many interesting things you can do to easily fill two or three weeks. I'm attaching a link to my trip report, to perhaps give you some ideas. It's a little wordy but we had a wonderful, memorable vacation. Marie has also spent a lot of time in Turkey and likely also has a trip report to share.
When you get back from Turkey, if you're still interested in Crete, we find that just as fascinating (we're making our 4th trip in September) and would be happy to consult.
Thanks to all for confirming. All of the research I'd done looked like it would be too complicated but wanted to make sure. this will be our 3rd trip to Turkey but first to the southwestern coast. We'll likely include Crete on our next trip to Greece.
Thanks again!
