Hello all,
I’m in Istanbul now and am having difficulty finding ATMs without super high fees. Any recommendations? Thanks!
What is a "super high fee"? This recent post might help https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/turkey/atm-in-turkey
You may just have to try a few out until you find one that works for you. In Istanbul there is usually a bank of ATMs so that should be fairly easy.
I saw that post. Thank you. To answer your question, I’m referring to fees of 9%. I need to withdraw a large amount of euro for a festival I’m attending, and I am trying to avoid spending 60+ euro in fees.
I Googled your question and here’s what populated:
Ziraat Bankasi may be accommodating to international cardholders.
Halkbank, ING and some hotels with ATMs may also be fee-free i.e., Hotel Amira, Basileus Hotel, Swissotel The Bosphorus, White House Hotel Istanbul, Hilton Istanbul Boshorus, Hotel Yasmak Sultan, Sumengen Hotel, Pera Palace Hotel and Hotel Sultania.
Mary Pat, thank you so much. Very helpful. I really appreciate it. Jill
You might also try post office ATMs.
The ATM-fee situation is ever-changing in many countries, not just in Turkey. Ziraat Bank ATMs were no-fee when I was in the city, but shortly after I returned home, I read that they had begun charging fees. Don't be too disappointed if the suggestions you receive here (including mine) do not pan out.
My son, who has lived in Istanbul for 10 years, says the best fees are the ATMs in the post offices.
This past August I found that to be true.
