I am arriving two days ahead of tour date, checking to see if anyone else arrives around 5 pm on the 19th and would like to share transportation to Galata's hotel? I haven't booked a shuttle or anything yet, and would like to share costs. I realize it's "rush hour" so may need to plan on a later shuttle or taxi or uber? Please let me know if you're interested. Unfortunately not many RS tour members participate in this forum, but hopefully someone sees your message. FWIW I booked a Welcome Pickups shuttle from IST to my Sultanahmet pre-tour hotel (I moved later to Galata's) for a 4pm-ish flight arrival. It was a good decision for a very jet lagged traveler and the 40 euro cost was cheaper than the private shuttle the hotel offered and was probably less expensive than a taxi as the traffic was pretty awful (and you don't have to worry about a meter - flat rate with the private car hire). It's almost always "rush hour" in Istanbul but plan on a minimum of an hour travel time. Also, there really isn't Uber proper in Istanbul, it essentially calls you a local cab that charges you through Uber. Better to just get an official taxi.
And I'll make a plug for the pre-tour foodie tour, if offered (look at your tour materials). It's always the day prior to the tour and is a wonderful orientation to the food and culture of Istanbul. It explores mainly the Asia side which you don't really to go with the group. Have a great time!
