Istanbul Airport to the Old Town

Hi:
I arrive Friday for a R.S. Istanbul tour.
The hotel is in the old section.
Trying to decide whether the "metro" is a
viable alternative to a taxi. Anyone have
experience going from the airport to Old Town?

Which hotel specifically? If in Sultanahmet area, the metro isn't probably going to be convenient and will require transferring to a tram (or two) which can be extremely crowded. As you're in Budapest, you might be far less jet lagged than those of us traveling from the states, so you might be up for the metro adventure, here's one post that might help - https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/turkey/ist-metro-transit-what-am-i-missing CityMapper app works great in Istanbul it can help you plot routes.

I used Welcome Pickups for a door-to-door transfer. It's likely the hotel you are staying at will arrange something similar. For me, jet lag > cost savings of the metro.

We found taking a taxi was by far the best plan. It cost us about $65. The hotel setup a van transfer, that was a complete disaster. $50 a person and they had us waiting around in the parking garage for over an hour. We finally just took a taxi with immediate service door to door.
