My husband and I are traveling to Istanbul for the first time next week and are trying to decide whether to use a taxi or book a private transfer to/from the airport. Our AirBNB is near Galata Tower. The other suggestions I've read lean toward a transfer arranged by a hotel. As that is clearly not an option, I am curious about people's thoughts on this. I know that taxis could take us on an unplanned "tour" of the city. Is the cost of €50 each way for a private transfer worthwhile? Or should we hop into taxi and say we need to get to Galata Tower?
