Air Travel Turkey

We are flying from Boston/or NYC to Istanbul
ending trip in Bodrum. We prefer non stop or one stop so thought we would try Roundtrip Athens and do local flights ATH-IST and Bodrum-IST for return to Athens. Good idea? Thought we would allow a full day /night in ATH before return flight.
Ideas/thougjts/Experience? Is Turkish Air fairly reliable? Has anyone flown Turkish Airlines non stop (Economy) from JFK?? Thank you.

We flew Turkish Air non-stop from Boston to Istanbul last month. No problems.

Turkish is a huge airline with excellent service. No reason to fly to Greece if your destination is Turkey.

Turkish Airlines is great! I’ve flown their nonstop from Seattle a few times and also flown Istanbul to Cape Town on them. All long haul flights, all well done.

What Slate and Carol said.

Turkish Airlines is the largest airline in the world by some reasonable measures. They're also one of the best, from a passenger experience standpoint. I fly Turkish Airlines regularly, and I go out of my way to do so. They have nonstops to Istanbul from JFK, EWR and BOS. I can't think of any good reason not to simply fly from your choice of airport to IST, then connect on the same ticket to Bodrum. Stopping in Athens seems like an odd (and frankly, crazy) choice to me.

There are lots of fans of Turkish Airlines here (for good reason). You'll see.

I returned home from Istanbul to Washington-Dulles (IAD) on a Turkish Airlines nonstop flight a few years ago. It was perfectly fine. IST is a huge airport, so it can take a surprisingly long time to get out the front door if you start measuring from when the wheels touch down.

I haven't transferred at IST; I suppose connection times might need to be a bit longer there than at some other potential transfer points.
