About 7 months left on US passport

I will be in Turkey from 11/23 to 12/1/2015. After entering Turkey, I will have about 7 months left on my U.S. passport. The Lonely Planet travel guide suggested that I only need to have 6 months left, but the Department of State website suggested 8 months. For those of you who have been to Turkey, can you advise if I should go ahead and renew my passport asap? I don't want to be denied entry at the airport for such a technicality.

Thanks,
Kathy

I strongly suggest renewing it before you go since the consequences of a surprise would be so catastrophic. It's been my experience that the personality of the employee can make a huge difference in what happens when you're entering a country. I prefer to avoid the possibility of really unpleasant surprises.

You will be fine. One must have at least 6 months on date of arrival and at least 60 days following your departure date.
Here is the official Turkish government web site-

I assume you will apply for an e visa will you?If there is a problem with your passport you would be notified upon e visa application. If you are doing so be sure to use only the web site below to apply and not one of the many lookey-likey agency web sites who will rip you off!

Thank you all for your replies. Sarika, I didn't know I had to apply for an e-visa. Thank you so much for letting me know. I have just applied for it using the link you provided :-)

That's good Kat.On arrival you can now go directly to passport control.Currently it is still possible to buy VOA but the queues are hideous and it is more expensive. You'll clear the airport now with minimum fuss and can grin cheerfully at those queueing :)
