My wife and I, and her three siblings, will spend a day in Canakkale while on a cruise this coming fall. There seems to be a fair bit of agreement on the forum that Troy isn't all that impressive. So, what are some interesting things to do in Canakkale for a day?

Troy's not impressive but it's the idea that you are actually standing there on the site. I wouldn't go to Canakkale and not go to Troy. The only ancient Mediterranean sites I am lacking are Crete and Akrotiri.

That’s correct. After seeing many great ancient sites , it is a kind of disappointment visiting Troy.There is only 1 standing wall from Trojan war time and the ruins are so complicated and really difficult to visualize. But .. I wouldn’t think that way. How many times in your life you will have an opportunity to “be” in Troy ancient city? There is also quite a new museum of Troy that has been opened a few years ago. If I were you , I would make a quick visit to Troy and museum then go to city centre of Canakkale and walk on ghe coast side to see Trojan Horse that was in the movie. then pick a restaurant and enjoy with grilled horse mackarel (if it is time when you visit) and get a beer with kalamari 🍻
There is nothing to do there other than else.
