First time to Zermatt and very impressed and anywhere you go you see the Matterhorn
against a clear blue skye....we all know Switzerland is expensive but Zermatt restaurants
even more so...we found the Coop near the train station to have great prices and all kinds
of food and beverages at reasonable prices...for lunch a great grilled sausage cart was just
down the block...for dinner we had rotissiere chicken and pomme frites at the Wilde Hilde
(recommended by Rick for sandwiches) for 16 francs-enough for two to split...took the
Gornergrat cog wheel train up 10000 feet with great views of the Matterhorn all the way
and did some great recommended hikes on the way down...we saved 50 francs pp with Swiss pass
and another 10 as prices go up on July 1-a really great excursion...got to luv the Swiss pass....we
stayed at the Hotel Antika Annex, a short walk from the train station- my friend and I both had our own
small single rooms and we luved the Hotel...$100/nite-a steal for Zermatt...clean, comfortable room,
great breakfast in the main Hotel, friendly front desk- they kept us supplied with ice, good closet & storage space, room safe, new bathroom...one more day then a week in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, one of my fav places in Europe.
Sounds wonderful. Zermatt is my sister's happy place.
Haven’t been to Zermatt in 15 years - but I loved it - we also hiked up to the climbing hit on the Matterhorn!
You’re right it’s pricey - but it’s always worth a couple of days - so many nice hikes !
