This summer I finally reached Zermatt a car free lovely village and ski resort.
The weather can be iffy but we got it right and enjoyed 2 nites their at the large Youth Hostel. Easily reached by city bus from train station takes about 10 min.
Up the residential hills. The views are beautiful and hostel well run , super clean and recently remodeled. As 2 seniors we were unsure about a hostel but were quite comfortable there. Walking down to beautiful village is easy.
Our summer rate was $140 approx for 2 persons pvt rm. as compared to very expensive hotel rms. This is a very popular hostel bk early always and watch the weather closely. My pic of the matterhorn from the hostel is amazing!

I have visited zermatt only once , 'many years ago, and loved it !
