My partner and I had a brief visit to Krakow last August. Although the weather was more like Portland, OR in early spring (lots of rain) we had a great time. We enjoyed a nice long bike ride with Krakow Bicycle Tours. You get to see the sites along with a good overview from your guide (ours was Mathais...he was just great!) For food in the old town I cannot recommend highly enought "Polski Smacki!" This small cafeertia style restaurant serves mouth waterering (and hearty) Polish fare at very reasonable prices. If you want lots of delicious food stop in here and fill up. We loved it so much we visited them twice!
The Polish people are genuinely friendly in my opinion. Some of the other well worn European tourist destinations can have some pretty cold folks...Poland is very welcoming and friendly...I'd go back in a minute.
Hi, Bart We're from Portland and are living in Prague now for almost two years. Probably will be going back to US in late July/August. Just wanted to agree with your Krakow comments. We went towards the end of Feb yes! Feb in Poland! and had a splendid time. We stayed in a hotel, the name escapes me just now, where we had a suite with a separate bedroom, 1.5 baths, and the 4th floor room looked to the river and the castle. You probably know the one I means. The cost was about $150 a night. Just loved the openness of the town and hope to go back before we go back to US.
