My husband and I spent a wonderful day on 10th August 2018 touring the main sites of Hadrian's Wall in the UK. We were guided by Peter Carney of Hadrian's Wall Walk company http://www.hadrianswall-walk.com
Superb! we had such a wonderful, enriching and interesting day. Peter picked us up from our B&B in Hexham (Hexham Town B&B - an excellent place to stay) in the morning and mercifully, he drove while our rental car stayed parked for the day! He took us to the Roman Army museum and to Vindolanda fort and museum. Peter is such a knowledgeable person and will tailor the tour to your interests and needs. We ended up chatting away over lunch at the Vindolanda museum cafe. Highly recommend Peter Carney and his tours of Hadrian's Wall. All the best wishes, Heba & Anthony
We had a wonderful time with Peter too!
A few yrs ago we also visited Hadrians Wall and adjacent Vindolanda, a great visit. Terrific Pub grub also along the route!!!
Used him too and he is excellent.
My sister and I also used Peter Carney when visiting Hadrian's Wall. We did an orientation day with him and then spent a few days walking on our own. That orientation day where we learned so much about the wall and the history of the area made all the difference when we were walking. We could appreciate just a bit more what we were seeing.
I would also like to recommend the Ashcroft B and B in Haltwhistle. An absolutely lovely place to stay and very convenient to public transport. https://www.ashcroftguesthouse.co.uk/
Thanks for posting about this. I am sure others will find this recommendation useful.
I really enjoyed my visit to Hadrians Wall as well. It was part of a RS tour. You wouldn't think something that old and run down would be interesting, but it is. It is just surprising when the ruins of the wall pop up here and there and you can see how perfectly everything was put together. Sure doesn't appear to be 2000 years old!
