I always read the guidebook reviews for best and worst hotels, restaurants, activities etc. The new forum does not have much. I hope they change it.
I'm certain the web designer will chime in if this thread generates enough traffic, but perhaps the intention was that hotel and restaurant feedback would appear in the "Hotel and Restaurants" section. After all, this is Rick Steves website, and it's inevitable that his readers are going to stay and eat at many of the book's recommendations. Thus far, though, it looks like that subforum is getting more requests for recommendations than reviews.
I hope so Tom. I am looking for a B&B for London and there is only one post. The feedback on hotels and restaurants was always helpful for when I was planning a trip. Oh well, I do have over a year to plan my trip so I time to keep checking back.
I agree! I've used the guidebook reviews for hotels and restaurants for the past several years as well. I miss it. They were especially helpful when I was trying to book for extended stay in an area either before or after I started a RS tour. I always try to plan my extended travel well before my tour guidebook arrives and really appreciated that forum. Now I have to spend much more time browsing through a lot of irrelevant info before finding the specific area I'm interested in (if there is any at all).
I've just spent 20 minutes looking around the website for this very thing! Please bring it back!!
I am really upset with this new website. Where are the easy to read best and worst hotels, restaurants, experiences, etc? We have been using Rick Steves travel guides and reader feedback since our first trip to Europe in 2003 and found them essential for our travel planning. The guidebook reader feedback format resulted in focused, succinct and informative reviews. We used them extensively and depended on them to help us with our travel planning. Now all we see is forum-style endless babbling. The comments are all over the place about everything. It is impossible to easily scan the page for hotel, restaurant, experiences, etc. reviews. The reader comments are no longer organized in a useful and easy to use manner. This is so disappointing! Please bring back the old guidebook reader feedback format!
Again - as with the elimination of the tour reviews, I think taking out readers reviews of these books is a disservice to your customers. I guess I'll just have to purchase through Amazon where they keep the reviews for all books available for future buyers.
I also really miss the reader feedback, Best and Worst Hotels, etc. They were very helpful, and I always used them to plan our trips. The guidebooks are great, but sometimes it helps to read other traveler's thoughts and experiences, and this website was the best to do that. Please add them back in. They are a great supplement to the guidebooks. Thanks, Rick, for making trip planning so much easier!
I am adding my total frustration with the Rick Steves reviews. It seemed so easy before and now I don't know where to go and easily see comments for a specific location. I just think someone solved a problem that did not exist created a problem when not necessary.
