Vienna, pt 2

I bought a 1 year card for the amazing Kunsthistorisches Museum and that ended up being a great investment. (53 E.) Art is my passion and spending hours and days in major museums is what I do when I have the opportunity. When you have a pass like that and the days to use it, the way you see things completely changes. You can go in just for an hour or two on your way to something else and then come back again later. It also gave me free entry to the Welt Museum Vienna which is an interesting and fun museum too.

So I could go on and on about the Bruegels and the Caravaggios I saw but I will spare the reader. The short description is I went to the two aforementioned museums plus the Albertina (and also lucked into a Michelangelo special exhibit), the Belvedere, both buildings, visited and toured the Stephansdom, the Votivkirche, and the Augustinian Church, rode the tram around the RS suggested ring tour and walked Vienna a lot! Found a place in the city with a section of exposed cobblestones from 1200 that I walked on! Amazing.

It was a great week and I loved the vibe of the city, they seemed friendly and welcoming. Vienna is like a grande dame, relaxed, elegant and nothing to prove. No crush of people on the public transport or the streets, no lines to wait in, people out with their kids and friends enjoying themselves in the parks, just sort of a laid back feel. I loved it all.

Happy to answer any questions…..

Vienna is a music city in the continental style. We went out on the town one Summer, 1970 night, and ended up at a park with a full orchestra and people dancing the waltz. It was a pretty magical night.

We also spent another night out at the Vienna Woods in a "Heurige", or wine gardens drinking young wine. On the way back, our bus tuned into a radio station playing Porter Waggoner and Dolly Parton singing "40 miles to Poplar Bluff."

It's been awhile since we visited Vienna--as we've been traveling to Spain, Italy, the Greek Islands and the Adriatic. But we expect to be back there and again to Budapest soon.

Lyndash, what a wonderful description of Vienna. It's been 13 years since I've been there, but I loved it a lot and hope to go back some day. I'm so glad you enjoyed Vienna!

Thanks Mardee, it had been ‘08 since I’d been. I liked it then but loved it this time. Maybe I took things a little slower this time and appreciated it all even more. I name checked you in pt 1 to say thanks for the Airola tip. I’m still using up the last of the cellular back home in Texas which surprises me!
