Venice, Florence, Rome tour day 3 question

Hi all,

Trying to do some pre tour planning. What are some of the typical islands visited on day 3 of the tour?

What are you asking? Islands? Most of Italy is pretty solid ground. And day 3 of which tour? We are good at reading between the lines but I need more lines. AND you are in the Trip Report section and should move your question to Destination Q&A -- Italy.

Sorry Frank,

I thought my question was clear. Looking for feedback from others that have been on this tour already.

Your asking about the Rick Steves Venice, Florence, Rome tour, correct? I see on the page for that tour that Day 3 involves going to an island in the Venetian lagoon, which specific island to be determined by your tour guide. And you would like to get some idea in advance of which island that might be? You probably just need to ask your tour guide once you meet him or her. Or, just let it be a surprise.

We did Burano and Torcello as part of the tour, but I believe others have done Murano instead. I think the weather is a factor in determining which.

Thank you Stan. That was exactly what I was asking about. We have a few days before the tour starts and want to go places not covered on the tour.

David, if you call the office they may be able to tell you which island your guide will choose.

The tours are not always the same. The guide has some discretion. So one guide might do Murano, one might do Burano, one might do both. It might depend on what is going on in Venice at the time. For example, there is a glass event in September, the guide might choose to go to the island to see it or choose to avoid it.

This is a forum of folks that do both tours and independent travelers. My sense is, actually, most are independent travelers. Even if someone has been on that tour, they may not remember what day 3 is.

You might get your best answer by calling the RS office.

It was Torcello and Burano for us in 2018, with time for lunch on Burano. I had asked your question of the RS office before the trip and they told me it would probably be Burano. I think "your guide's favorite island" is probably always Burano, unless there's some reason for another one. So if you want to visit Murano I suggest you set that up before the tour starts, or in the free afternoon of day 2.

Torcello and Burano were great. Not being especially interested in glass, I skipped Murano. I expect the broader appeal of Torcello and Burano is why the RS tours go there.

When youโ€™re on the vaporetto dock on Burano, you can turn left and walk over a tiny causeway to the island of Mazzorbo.
