Ukraine - My Final Word

If you travel like we did you need to know the Ukranian cyrillic alphabet and how to handle a phrase book and dictionary. If you need help always look for a young person. Know some basic words like dva peevo. We would really like to go back to Lviv, Ivano Frankivsk, and Odesa. Of course my wife would also like to go back and visit the relatives she found. That would take us Kosiv or Kolomiya which are the nearest towns to the village. Travel out in the country is very possible but difficult for people of our ages. By the end of the trip we were absolutely fatigued and had colds. Part of the fatigue came from working with a slavonic language in a cyrillic alphabet every day. The food was excellent and so was the beer. The people were out of this world with their kindness. Today is the national election there and we are rooting for Yulia Timoshenko.

kThanks. They were necessarily brief. If anyone would like details on hotels we stayed at or other information on the cities we visited send me a personal note and we can go to email.

Unfortunately a racist, fascist party won 12 seats in the parliament. Not super surprising, as similar results have been happening in Hungary and Greece in the last few years. Thanks for an informative trip report. Honestly can't say that Ukraine is super high on my list, but it's good to read unbiased experiences.

Yes, I know. We have followed the election. While there we stopped at all the Timoshenko booths we saw and cheered them on. The Ukranian people deserve better than they are getting from the politicians.
